Final Rites Held at St. Patrick's for Mrs. Geo. Connolly
Funeral services for the late Mrs. George Connolly, 78, who passed away at St. Thomas Mercy hospital in Marshalltown Monday forenoon were held this morning at nine o'clock from St. Patrick's Catholic church, with the Rev. James D. Mahoney in charge of the services.
Mrs. Reis Praty was at the organ playing the requiem music which was sung by Helen Plavets and Raymond O'Donnell, members of St. Patrick's choir.
The casket bearers wer P. W. Andrew, E. J. Kelley of Ames, John Brodie, George Stefani, Joe Hopkins of Colo, and C. E. Airy.
Burial was in the family lot in the Catholic Cemetery by the side of two children who passed away in infancy many years ago.
On Tuesday evening at 8 p. m. the Rosary service was held at the Lilly Funeral Home where the remains lay in state surrounded by many beautiful floral offerings which were evidence of the respect and esteem in which the deceased was held.
Harriet Skinner-Connolly was born in Gloucestershire, England, Feb. 5, 1865. She came as a young girl to the home of her aunt, the late Mrs. Martin O'Donnell in Colo, with whom she lived for short time. She was married Feb. 21, 1887 to George Connolly of Nevada. The marriage ceremony was performed by the late Father M. S. Murphey, long time pastor of the Nevada-Colo Catholic churches.
Mr. and Mrs. Connolly established their home on their farm east of Nevada where they lived until 1925, when they moved into their home on Tenth street. Here they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Feb. 2, 11987.
Mrs. Connolly was woman of thrift and industry. She was devoted to her church. A lover of flowers she surrounded her self with many choice varieties of beautiful bloom. During her earlier years she was interested in kodak photography and for 36 years was identified commercially in this art.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary to Post No. 48, and while she was in health was ever ready to do her share in all its activities.
Two sons, Frederick and Joseph, passed away in infancy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years and one son G. Ray Connolly and granddaughter, Marcia Connolly, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.
