Funeral Services For Dela Connolly, Colo Pioneer

Funeral services for Dela Francis Connolly were held in St. Mary's church in Colo last Friday.

Father James Mahoney paid an unusually fitting tribute to the deceased in a simple and beautiful address. In the course of his comments he spoke of her long residence in the town of her birth and of her unselfish devotion to her family and community. He spoke of the romance of pioneering and the struggle of the early farmers to clear the land. It will be recalled by the older residents that the Connolly farm occupies land which was purchased from the government in 1857 by Miss Connolly's father, the late John Connolly, who died in 1907.

John Orr, accompanied by Mrs. Frances O'Donnell, sang several appropriate hymns in his beautiful tenor voice. James McCoy served a acolyte.

The pallbearers, in compliance with the wishes of the deceased, were Joe Hopkins, Roy O'Donnell, George Neidert, Roger Hopkins, John Brouhard and Grant Orr. Mrs. Bert Olson and Katherine Donnelly cared for the many beautiful flowers.

Surviving Miss Connolly are two sisters, Mrs. George F. Duck of Teaneck, New Jersey and Agnes L. Connolly of Colo; one brother, J. S. Connolly of Des Moines; two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, four brothers and three sisters.

Relatives and friends from a distance were Mrs. Dan Connolly, Joe Connolly, Des Moines; Mrs. Cleo Connolly, Muscatine, Ia.; Mrs. Martha Duck and Mrs. Emmerson Gensler, Teaneck, N. J.; Mr. and Mrs. R. F. O'Donnell, Ames; Blanche and Ella Hopkins, Nevada; Clem Wade, Chicago, Ill.; Milton Connolly of Des Moines.
