John R. Decker.

John R. Decker was born in Franklin county, Ohio, Dec. 26, 1835, and died Oct. 26, 1901, at his residence in Ames. He was married to Eliza Hipsher, June 28, 1852, to whom were born four children, one, Manford R., dying at the age of five, the wife and the surviving children, Mrs. Sam Carlton, of LaVerne, Minn., Mrs. Frank Noble, of Ames, and E. H. Decker, of Des Moines, all being with him at the time of his death, together with the three grand children and one little great-grandson.

He came to Story county in 1864, where he resided on a farm six miles north of Ames until two years ago when he removed to town. He united with the Presbyterian church in 1856. After moving to Iowa he united with the Christian church, near his home of which he was a member until his death. He was an earnest Christian man, a kind husband and a loving father.
