Mrs. Eliza Decker
Eliza Hipsher was born August 12, 1931 near Caledonia, Marion county, Ohio, and died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Ora Harlan, 1337 13th street, Des Moines, Iowa, December 17th. She was united in marriage to John R. Decker, June 28, 1852, who died at his home in Ames October 26, 1891. Four children blessed this union, Amanda, Manford R., who died in childhood, Malinda L. and E. H. Decker, two daughters, Mrs. Amanda Carlton of Luverne, Minnesota, and Mrs. M. L. Noble of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Mrs. Ora Harland, Paul and Frank Decker, and one great-grandson, Earl Harlan, all of Des Moines; and one brother living in Ohio.
Mrs. Decker united with the Christian church early in life and has always been a faithful and consistent Christian.
In September, 1864, they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm six miles north of Ames, where they lived until December 1899, when they moved into Ames. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Decker has made her home with her daughters, both of whom attended the funeral services held in Ames Monday afternoon a the Church of Christ. Rev. John T. Houser having charge. Mr. and Mrs. Harlan and little son of Des Moines, Mrs. Harlan being a granddaughter and Mrs. Smith a daughter-in-law, also of Des Moines, were present at the services. Miss Lura Buckton presided at the piano and three selections were rendered by Mesdames Houser, Kintzley, Jeffreys and Elmer Greenlee. Interment was made in the Ames cemetery.
