From Nevada Representative May 26, 1911 (front page)

Ernest Bechtel.

Davenport Democrat -- Mr. and Mrs. George M. Bechtel suffered a deep bereavement at an early hour Sunday morning, May 21 when their second son, August Ernest, breathed his last at the close of a week's illness from pneumonia. Those gathered about the lad's bed side Saturday had watched the flame of life grow dim, and their hopes had risen as it burned brighter Saturday night. When the moment of collapse came and the flickering light went out, the home was left in the darkness of a sorrow that only time and courage and faith may dissipate. "Ernie" as his friends had always called him, was a boy of singularly lovable disposition and brightness of mind. He was born September 24, 1896, at the family home when his span of life ended. Within a few months he would have graduated from Madison school, and plans were in the making that would have shortly taken him to Exeter, where his brother Harold is continuing his studies. He was one of six children, there being four younger sisters at home. The older brother Harold is expected from Exeter tomorrow. Such a bereavement as this may be too deep for human sympathy to assuage, but so far as it my lighten the burden of sorrow, a host of friends of the family is tendering it. Ernie's death carried sorrow into many's home where he was appreciated and loved.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: August Ernst "Ernie" Bechtel was the son of George Martin Bechtel and Martha Reimers.
