Mr. R. V. Veneman, whose critical illness has been heretofore reported, died Friday at his home in Madrid of typhoid fever. He was the eldest son of Hon. W. J. Veneman and his funeral was held at Maxwell Sunday.

Mr. R. V. Veneman who had been seriously sick at Madrid for the past ten weeks, died last Friday morning and the remains were brought to the residence of W. J. Veneman in Maxwell Saturday and buried on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Veneman was born a few miles southwest of Maxwell in 1867 and spent all his life in this vicinity except the few years he has lived in Boone county. He was married to Miss Cora Houser of Colo in 1891. He was a member of the K. of P., A. F. and A. M. and the Odd Fellows. The members of the Madrid and Boone lodges I. O. O. F. came on Sunday on a special train and attended the funeral and performed the ritualistic rites of the order at the cemetery in a very impressive manner. The attendance was so large that it was deemed necessary to hold the funeral services in the Opera House at 2 p. m. Sunday and there was not a vacant chair in the house. The singing was by a Madrid choir. The sermon was delivered by Rev. A. L. Umpleby of Madrid who was assisted in the services by Rev. A. W. Harned of Woodward and J. Giddins of Maxwell. The floral decoration were numerous and appropriate. Mr. Veneman was an intelligent and loyal Methodist, was honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen and everybody had confidence in his honesty. He held the office of county superintendent of public schools of Boone county for two terms and his actions were never questioned. Truly a useful man has passed away.
