From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:
Gilbert John Griffith, 86, of Maxwell, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Gilbert was born March 2, 1930, in Des Moines to Walter John and Cora Fern (Howell) Griffith. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1948 and was united in marriage to Geraldine Bloomberg on September 4, 1949, in Maxwell. Gilbert was a member of the Maxwell Community Chorus, Mason’s Tabernacle Lodge #452 and Nevada Lodge #99, the Isaac Walton League (Indian Creek Chapter) and the Cambridge United Methodist Church.
Gilbert enjoyed fishing. He and Geraldine would take a trip to Cooks Camp in Red Lake, Ontario, Canada to help his step-brother-in-law, Alba Cook close up the camp for the summer. He was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan and though he didn’t enjoy working with draft horses, he sure loved to watch them. Above all, Gilbert’s greatest loves were his wife and children, farming and livestock. Gilbert was raised and spent his entire life on the century family farm.
Gilbert is survived by his children: John (Patricia) Griffith, Georgia Griffith and David (Cindy) Griffith; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife in 2005.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, at the Cambridge United Methodist Church in Cambridge. Burial will follow services at Center Grove Cemetery near Cambridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maxwell or Cambridge First Responders.
