WOUNDS KILL SLATER HERO

LLOYD CHADER DIES AT BREST WHILE WAITING HOSPITAL SHIP TO BRING HIM HOME

Lloyd Chader, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Chader of Slater, died at Brest, France on January 10. Death was caused a pneumonia following his being gassed and shell shocked.

A week ago Mr. and Mrs. Chader received a letter from their son's nurse at Brest, saying the he was very sick, but that it was thought he would be able to be sent home on a hospital ship within a few weeks. They received the message last Tuesday night telling of his death at the French port.

Lloyd Chader was almost twenty years of age and was going to high school in Slater when the United States entered the world war and he was probably the first man to enlist from that community having been in the service since the first months of the war. He served with an ambulance company until a few weeks before the closing of hostilities when he was transferred to an infantry unit. It was in the hot fighting during the German retreat that he was severely gassed and shell shocked. While recovering in a hospital back of the lines pneumonia set in and he being in a weakened condition succombed to the disease.

Chader was one of the most popular young men in Slater and that vicinity and his parents have the deep sympathy of every resident in the county. Another Story County soldier has "gone West" paying his supreme sacrifices for his country. It is such men as Chader that have honored the community by being a part of [unreadable].
