Dorothy Q. Maroney was born June 10, 1924 to William E. and Hilga (Peterson) Queal in Omaha, Nebraska. Dorothy's family moved to Ames in May of 1932 and she graduated Ames High School in 1942. She and Donald James "Jim" Maroney were married August 8, 1953. Dorothy worked for 22 years as a clerk and operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America.

Dorothy passed away at 91 years of age on April 7, 2016 at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Michael J. (Sharon Palmer) Maroney of Amherst, Mass., Patsy (Dean) Dass of Charlottesville, Va., and Donald P. Maroney of Ames and his former spouse, Cynthia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jim, in 1985.
