S. M. Kegley, for more than 25 years a citizen of Colfax, died last Tuesday at his residence 1308 6th avenue, Des Moines, after an illness with locomotor-ataxia which had extended over two or three years and with which he suffered almost constantly. He was about 51 years of age and leaves a wife and two daughters. The funeral was from the residence at 9 o'clock this morning and the body was taken to Ames for internment. Obituary notice will appear in our paper next week.

Obituary of S. M. Kegley
S. M. Kegley who was born in Ames, July 19, 1863, was one of a family of nine children, 7 of whom were boys. Lizzie was his twin. At the age of fourteen he was baptized into the Presbyterian church with his sister, Lillie. He was graduated from Ames college and took a post-graduate course in law in Drake University, Des Moines, came to Colfax in 1886 and with his brother, Frank engaged in operating a shoe store. Was married to Miss Nellie, daughter of our townsman, R. P. Mulock, March 10th 1889. Two daughters, Mary and Rachel blessed this union both of whom survive with their mother the loss of husband and father. Most of his life he was engaged as travelling salesman for W. L. Douglas. Exposure incident to his work served to undermine his constitution and later complications thwarted loving care and skill until his final sickness developed pneumonia and patiently borne sufferings ceased June 18th at his home 1308 6th avenue, Des Moines. Friends of many years standing sympathize with Mrs. Kegley and her two daughters in their great bereavement.

Mr. S. T. Goodrich is on the road this week for the W. L. Douglas Shoe Company, taking the place of Mr. S. M. Kegley, who is temporarily disabled by a penknife wound in the calf of his leg accidentally self-inflicted. Mr. Goodrich will travel in Mr. Kegley's place till the latter is entirely recovered.
