Obituary Thursday, 23 July 1868
Nevada, IowaFatal Accident - Miss Emma Alderman, a girl of fourteen, daughter of Hezekiah Alderman of Indian Creek, met her death at the hands of Irving Potter a lad of about the same age one day last week. Miss Emma had been visiting at the house of her brother-in-law, Mr. Lawrence Lavis*, on Skunk River, and was about returning home, the team to take her there was at the door. The lad Irving was playing with a pistol and pointing it at a door unfortunately went off at the moment the young lady in another room came within range. The ball passed through her temple, death ensuing almost instantly.
