James Walter Marsh, 82, of Ames and formerly of Jewell died January 13, 2016 at Bethany Manor in Story City. No services are planned.

Jim was born on July 22, 1933 in Collins, Iowa to Curtis and Alice (Heinz) Marsh. He married Beverly Paulson on December 30, 1954. He taught at Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb Schools and Francis W. Parker School in San Diego before moving to Jewell in 1963. Jim taught at South Hamilton and served as Athletic Director until retired in 1991. He was elected to IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame and Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.

Jim is survived by his wife Beverly of Ames; three daughters, Sheri (Rick) Akers of Edgewater, FL, Sandy (Kent) Hertzke of Ames and Patti (Tim) Sealine of Stanhope; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and four sisters, Jean Ann Weir of Colo, IA, Judy Dunshee of Indiana, Kathy Maxwell of What Cheer and Marilyn Barger of Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Curtis, Jr., Frederick and Lewis.
