Obituary
In the death of Thomas M. Gossard, which occurred at his home near Ames, April 11, 1890, his family lost a good husband and father the county a worthy citizen. He served four year in the army and one of the earliest settlers of the county.
Resolutions adopted by Ellsworth Post No. 30 G. A. R.:
WHEREAS, It has pleased the Supreme Commander to transfer our esteemed comrade, Thomas M. Gossard, from the ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic to the veteran corps upon the camping grounds of immortality; and
WHEREAS, We desire to express our regard for him as a comrade and a patriot; and to perpetuate his memory as a bright exemplar to the young; therefore be it
Resolved, 1. That in the death of Thomas M. Gossard, Ellsworth Post loses a highly esteemed comrade, our country a patriotic citizen who, in the hour of danger, bravely did a soldiers duty in its defense the community in shich he resided a neighbor whose loss they greatly lament and his family a loving husband and kind father.
2. That we, the members of this Post, extend to the family of our late comrade, our heartfelt sympathy in their great bereavement.
3. That the charter of the Post be draped in mourning for a period of thirty days; that these resolutions be entered upon the records of the Post, and their publication requested in the county papers and a copy be sent to the family of the deceased.
