From Nevada Representative August 14, 1889

A telegram reached Nevada Tuesday forenoon conveying the sad intelligence of the sudden death of Michael M. Ross at Ophir, Colorado, Sunday, Aug. 11th, 1889. Mr. Ross was born near Martinsburg, Knox county, Ohio, May 16, 1824. He was married, April 20th, 1848, to Miss Jane A. Pumphrey, and lived on a farm in Licking county until 1852. He then engaged in the dry goods business at Hiller, Ohio, until 1856 when he came to Iowa, and continued in the same business for three years at Iowa Centre. He subsequently conducted a drug store at Sigourney, this state. In 1864 he came to Nevada and for several years was in the boot and shoe and grocery business. He went to the mountains in 1876 and has been engaged in mining near Ophir, Colorado all the time since. He has passed eight winters during this time with his family in Nevada. For the last eight years or more his son Charles has been with him, and was with him at the time of his death. He expected to return home this fall for the winter. He leaves a wife, three daughters and one son to mourn his loss. Mr. Ross was a worthy man and all who knew him will regret his death and sympathize with his bereaved family.
