Kenneth Kemmerer, 92, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 in Gilbert, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames, Iowa with burial to follow at Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert, Iowa. A light luncheon will be held in the Community Room at the Gilbert Fire Station following the burial service.

Kenneth Alvin Kemmerer was born February 24, 1923 to Simon and Artie Kemmerer in Ames, Iowa.

He grew up around the Ames area and in 1941 graduated from Nevada High School.

On March 19, 1949, Kenneth was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lois Louise Bennett.

Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1946 until his honorary discharge in 1947.

Kenneth worked as an electrician for the National Animal Disease Center until his retirement in 1986.

Kenneth was a true outdoorsman and loved to go hunting and fishing with his brothers and in later years with his son, grandsons and great grandson. He enjoyed many wonderful hours with his great friend Gary Steel trapping, splitting wood, and numerous other activities.

He loved to play cards, tell stories, garden, take care of his apple trees, help others, and spend time with his family, and always made time to play with the grandkids and great grandkids. All of the children adored Grandpa Ken!

Kenneth will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Lois of Gilbert, Iowa; daughter, Patricia (Arden) Miller of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Ron (Lorraine) Kemmerer of Melbourne, Iowa; grandchildren, Sharon (Bryan) Hilleman, Stephanie Miller, Jeff (Angela) Miller, Curt (Carolyn) Kemmerer, Scott (Anne) Kemmerer, and Tom (Katie) Kemmerer; great grandchildren, Abby Hilleman, Kyle Hilleman, Connor Kemmerer, Nelle Kemmerer, Brynn Kemmerer, Jake Kemmerer and Luke Kemmerer. Ken is also survived by his brother, Bob; sister-in-law, Betty; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, Henry, Joe, Ed, Ivan, Jack, George, and Harold; sister, Erma and their spouses, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please offer memorial donations in Ken's memory to either the Gilbert Fire Department or the Gilbert Cemetery.
