Robert E. "Bob" Benson was born January 10, 1922 to Ira and Lena (Jacobson) Benson in Story City, Iowa. Bob and Marjorie Olson were married November 25, 1944. Bob served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during WWII on the USS Chincoteague.

Bob was employed at the Ames Municipal Light Plant for 35 1/2 years, until his retirement. He volunteered his time and talents freely which included the Ames Kiwanis, the Song Birds, American Legion Post #37 in Ames, and at Ascension Lutheran Church.

Bob's spiritual life was very important to him. He made it his duty to witness to as many people as possible.

Bob went home to be with his Lord Jesus whom he loved and served for many years, on November 24, 2015 at 93 years of age.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marge; two daughters, Sherry Rode and Pat Kingsbury; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Joella Wallace.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Evangelism Committee at Ascension Lutheran Church.
