From Nevada Representative August 12, 1885

Mrs. Mary Baker, of Colo, mother of Mrs. Eliza Baker, known to many friends in Nevada , died Wednesday, August 5th, aged 52 years, 6 months and 27 days.

The circumstances connected with her death were very sad. She had been ailing for some time, and some time ago, with several of her children, went to Kansas in hopes that she might recover. She seemed for a time to somewhat improve, but it was soon apparent that the improvement was not permanent. When it became evident that she would not live, she requested her children to come to her, but this being impossible she determined to come home to see them before she died. She started on her journey with her oldest daughter and her youngest son, Monday, Aug. 3d. Not being able to procure a sleeping berth, she rode from Kansas City to Des Moines in a dying condition, getting what rest her children could provide for her. On reaching Des Moines, she died as she was being taken from the depot to friends in the city. She was taken to Colo, Thursday evening, where a large number of friends gathered to sympathize with the afflicted family. The funeral took place, Friday morning. Five sons and two daughters are left to mourn her loss. They have warmest sympathy of the entire community and the prayer of many friends that they may look to Him who can be more than a father or mother to them.
