From Nevada Representative January 2, 1884

Gilbert Station.

Our community was saddened by the death, Sunday Dec. 23d of Miss Mary E. Stewart who, although among us only since August first, we had learned to love and admire because of her lovliness, her patience and cheerfulness during all her long sickness. Hemorrhage from the lungs prostrated her Sept. 2d, from which time her life has hung by a slender thread, tho most carefully guarded by a devoted mother, an anxious father, and prayers of many relatives and friends. Miss Stewart was born at Bristol, Vt., January 31, 1861. At the ave of eleven years she felt that she must be about her "masters business" and united with the Baptist church of that place. Her friends know her as lovely in mind, pure and earnest in spirit, enthusiastic, and desirous of excelling in all her undertakings. She graduated in June at Cooper Institute, New York, and was eager to carry on the life work for which she had prepared herself. But earth's winds blew too roughly for her and the frail flower bowed her head before it. Rev. Mr. Weaver of Ames, assisted Revs. Mr. Bennett and McCall, conducted the funeral services of Miss Stewart, Wednesday at the Presbyterian church.
