From Nevada Representative January 2, 1884

Last Saturday the wires warned the Misses Emmons of this city that there mother's life was waning; and Monday they announced her death which occurred at Middletown, Butler county, Ohio, soon after the first dispatch was sent.* Mrs. Emmons had been visiting her aged parents in the home of her childhood since last August, and her very delicate health had been improved by the return to her native air till a month ago she was prostrated with lung fever. The disease had so far yielded to care and skill that she was able to sit up, and her daughters were hopefully anticipating her restoration to health and her return to her family in the early spring, when a relapse resulted fatally. Mr. Emmons, who has been in Des Moines for some months, hastened to the scene of death on Sunday. In the loss of this pleasant, gentle lady the bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Elizabeth Jane (Long) Emmons died on 29 December 1883.
