From Nevada Representative December 7, 1887
The boiler explosion which occurred at Zearing Monday and which is reported in our Zearing correspondence, was extraordinary, as, in the killing of so worthy a citizen as Mr. Bunker, it was unfortunate. Aside from the destruction of the boiler and engine and the engine and the small building which contained them, the damage to property was slight. Mr. Bunker was struck by the heavy boiler at a distance of 180 feet from the boiler house, and so suddenly that he probably never knew what hit him. The engineer, who had stepped out for a moment, was missed by about six feet; while flying bricks landed all around without hitting anyone. Mr. Bunker was a most worthy man and an upright citizen; and his death is a loss to the community in which he lived.
