Funeral Wednesday Of Mrs. E. J. Billings
Services for Mrs. Ed. Billings, 73, longtime resident of Nevada, who died Monday, Sept. 13, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Morfoot Funeral Home with Rev. E. R. Walter officiating.
Burial was in the Marshalltown cemetery by the side of the husband sho passed away Nov. 23, 1944.
The following obituary was read by Rev. Walter at the funeral service.
Obituary
Emma Jennings Billings was born in Eldora, Iowa Dec. 10, 1874, the daughter of James H. and Mary Brace, and died Sept. 13, 1948, Monday at 1:45 p.m. at Nevada, Iowa at the age of 73 years 10 months.
Her early life was spent in Marshalltown, Iowa where she was united in marriage to Edward J. Billings on July 8, 1897. They both united with the Evangelical church of Marshalltown also Zearing and Nevada.
Living in Zearing for a short while they moved to Nevada in 1906 where they resided since.
To this union was born five children: Roy E. Billings, Burmingham, Ala.; Mrs Lola Heinen, Park Rapids, Minn.; Mrs. Helen Peterson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Earl W. Billings, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Glasgow, Maxwell, Iowa.
She was a member of Missionary society for many years and took an active part in church and Sunday school work as long as her health permitted.
She had been in poor health for several years and was confined to her home for the last two years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Billings, Nov. 23, 1944.
She leaves to mourn her death her children, one brother, Fred Brace and wife of Des Moines, 8 grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors.
