William Peter Lutz was born April 20, 1951 to Leonard and Dorothea (McQuaid) Lutz in New Milford, New Jersey. He married Carolyn Cook on May 12, 1972. He was a Program Planner at the Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 years, retiring in 2010. Among his hobbies were: cooking, photography, wood working, fishing, herpetology, model railroading, raising orchids and wine tasting. He was a die-hard New York Jets fan.

Bill died Friday, July 24, 2015, peacefully at his home at 64 years of age.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lutz of Ames; two daughters, Rachel (Jordan) Kent of Urbandale and Annelise Lutz of Plymouth, MN; and five grandchildren, Shay, Brannen, Kendall, Alex and Addison Kent of Urbandale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Christopher Lutz.
