A STORY COUNTY PIONEER DEAD.

J. M. Storm, 87 Years of Age, A Citizen Here Since 1881.

Mr. J. M. Storm who visited his son, Prof. A. V. Storm sever weeks during the fall and returned to Kansas three weeks ago, is dead. He was past 87 years of age. Those who visited him during his stay in Ames were surprised at his wonderful vitality and active mind. Speaking of his life the editor of the Nevada Representative, who knew him intimately says, "Mr. Storm was a man of most estimable character who bore well his part in the affairs of his community, lived honorably and well his long life of four score and seven and has passed to the patriarch's reward."

He had expected to remain in Story county but was advised to return to a warmer climate for the winter. Since a paralytic stroke which he suffered about four years ago, he had not been strong and for the past several months he had been failing rapidly. While where he began to grow worse and the attending physician decided that it would be advisable for him to go further south.

John M. Storm, long one of the last known and most highly respected citizens of Story county, died on Friday at the home of his daughter, Mr. Ricker, Arkansas City, Kansas. His remains were brought to Nevada in charge of his sons, J. V. and A. V. and the two daughters, Mrs. Horton and Mrs. Ricker, and the funeral was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Robison, Wednesday at half past two o'clock, at Nevada. The services were conducted by Rev. R. E. Shaw, pastor of the Methodist church, and the funeral and final rites were in charge of the Masons.

Mr. Storm was born in Oswego county, New York, March 18, 1820, and died an Arkansas City, Kansas, November 29, a907, aged 87 years, 8 months and 11 days. His youth was spent in New York and his middle age in Illinois. From the latter place he came to Nevada in 1881, and here has been his home substantially ever since. He first settle upon a farm which he purchased in Grant township, between Ames and Nevada. He resided upon this farm for four years, when he decided to retire from active business. He accordingly moved to Nevada, where his home life was broken up by the death of Mrs. Storm January 23, 1900, and since that time he has lived with his children. He was married three times. To the first union four children were born, three of whom survive the parents. They are Mrs. Marsh of Chicago, James M. Storm of Sioux City and William of California. To the second union but one child, Mrs. Theodore Milar of Atkinson, Ill. was born. Five children were the result of the third marriage and they are Mrs. Josephine Ricker of Arkansas City, Kas., Judd V. Storm of Rockwell City, Mr. Fred Horton of Arkansas City, Kan., Ashley Van Storm of Ames, and Mr. Mattie Storm-Robison of Nevada.
