From Nevada Representative June 20, 1894
Geo. W. Kinney died at his home in this city yesterday morning and will be buried this afternoon by the Masons, the Grand Army also participating. Mr. Kinney was about forty nine years of age in every respect a worthy man and respected citizen. He served his country in the war for the Union and his death is as clearly the direct result of that service as if he had been found dead upon the battle field. While engaged in action he received a gunshot wound in the left hand, which wound continued at intervals to break out anew. Reasonable amputation might have saved his general health; but to this he would not consent, and minor operations performed at various times failed to effect a cure. His whole system finally became poisoned and he died of what the doctors call septicemia. He had drawn for several years a pension of thirty dollars a month, part of which will undoubtedly be continued to the widow. He enjoyed the hearty goodwill of all who knew him and his death, though long anticipated, is wholly regretted.
