February 26, 1929 - May 5, 2015When Lee left us he did it the way he did everything...... with total control...... skillful execution..... thoughtfulness and love for Carol down to the beautiful dozen roses he had delivered that day for her upcoming birthday ❤️🌹💑
He never liked the long goodbyes - and he left us that way too! ..... and now his Lee-isms are surrounding us all 😊 Here’s a few we recall…
"Oh Carol……!”
“Get to the point…”
“Well hello there!"
"Let's get the ball rolling…."
“Vamonos!"
“…the latin root of that word is ____, and means _____…, in spanish they say ____, in italian its _____, in french ____, and german _____”He expected you to pass you a plate the same way he wanted to receive a scalpel.
When you mentioned nearly any location in the world he’d have a story of when he and Carol were there (they’d traveled to every continent including Antarctica) and share wonderfully detailed memories, and give you the historical significance.
He’d help Carol prepare the traditional dishes from all their travels and brought home a few choice ingredients including snake wine from Vietnam and fermented mare’s milk from Mongolia. Some of you were probably subjected to these meals!
“Tastes like chicken” which could refer to nearly anything he’d want you to try - and that he’d tried.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to Youth and Shelter Services in Ames or DesMoines Metro Opera in Indianola
A private service will be held at a later date.
