Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Karl Schaudt was born on September 2, 1953 to William and Fern (Pearson) Schaudt in Des Moines, Iowa. Karl grew up in Slater and graduated from Ballard High School in 1971. He went on to graduate from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Karl worked for many years as a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor at Powell CDC at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. In recent years, he had been employed as the Story and Boone County Mental Health Advocate.

He loved to read, do puzzles, watch and collect movies, play with his dog, and spend time with his family and friends. He had a knack for making people laugh with jokes and stories. Karl collected hats and liked to bring candy to his friends. He made the best snickerdoodles the world has ever tasted and loved to snack on kringla.

Karl was passionate about his work as a counselor and mental health advocate and loved to meet new people through his job. He had a gift for finding the people that needed him most and helping them through their problems. One of his greatest attributes was his acceptance of people for who they were and finding joy in his relationships with all people. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Karl passed away at 61 years of age on April 16, 2015 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Karl is survived by his children, Kayla Schaudt and Kyle Schaudt; his brother, Billy Schaudt; his sister, Karen Schaudt; his step-brothers, Curt (Monika) Smith and Bruce (Anne) Smith; and many other extended family.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents.
