Denise Ann Brunia was born October 4, 1926 to Frank D. and Lillian Mae (Traffley) Dowie, Sr. in Des Moines, Iowa. Denise graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1944 and married Nathan Brunia at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines on December 7, 1946. She was a co-founder of Electric Wholesale in 1957 and owned Denise's Stretch and Sew in Ames in the late 60's and 70's. Denise was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Ames Elks Lodge, The Soroptimist International of Ames, and volunteered at YSS in Ames. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and various crafts.

Denise passed away April 13, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at 88 years of age.

Denise is survived by her children, Kathy (Bob) Best, of Ames, Denny Brunia, of Arizona, Stephan (Diane) Brunia, of Ames, Brad (Karen) Brunia, of Huxley and Colleen (Mitch) Morgan, of Dallas, Texas; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; her brother, Fred Dowie, of Adel; and her brother-in-law, Bill Brunia, of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nathan; her brothers, Frank Dowie, Jr., Walter Dowie, Gene Dowie and Larry Dowie; and an infant sister, Virginia.
