Obituary for Dorrel J. Doolittle
Dorrel “Buck” Doolittle was born on April 24, 1929 to Franklin E. and E. Lenora (Jacobs) Doolittle in Story City, Iowa. He graduated from Story City High School in 1946. He served his country in the Army with one year active duty and five years on ERC during the Korean Conflict. On December 30, 1950, he married Barbara Peterson at Grace Evangelical United Brethren in Story City.
Buck was well known for being the quarterback on the first two undefeated and untied seasons playing for Story City Vikings High School football team. Buck was a lifetime resident of Story City and farmed all his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace United Methodist Church. He served as a Lafayette Township Trustee, a Story City School Board member, a 4-H Leader, and a member of the American Legion. He was a sports enthusiast of local, state and national sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. When he was able, he enjoyed attending his family’s activities.
Dorrel J. Doolittle, passed away March 25, 2015 at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa at 85 years of age.
Buck is survived by his two sons: Doug Doolittle of Story City, and Doak (Teresa) Doolittle of Cameron, MO; six grandchildren: Derrick (Kelly), Drake, Britain (Lincoln), Kent (Jennifer), Frank (Julie) and Jacki (Eric); four great grandchildren: Erik, Nora, Mia and Graham.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara on August 24, 2011; one brother, Carroll Duane Doolittle and one sister, F. Nayda Nibe.
Memorials may be made out to the Grace Senior Choir.
