SUDDEN DEATH OF WILLIAM LOCKRIDGE,

William Lockridge, one of the earliest, best known and most highly respected citizens of Nevada, died at his home here at about 12:40 p.m. today, Wednesday. Death came to him wholly without warning, and it was only as he was gasping his lat that he was found. The story is that he was going fishing with Mr. Frank A. McLain, and came home early to dinner. He went out to dig some bait, Mr. McLain driving around about 12:30, learned he was after bait and circled around the block in search of him. He was found back in his barn, where he had turned a few forkfuls of earth and had then fallen, supposedly with paralysis of the heart. Doctors and others were summoned in haste; but he was past help, and he died where he had been found. He had had some heart trouble, and he was seventy year of age, and it will be recalled that his only son Frank died in almost the same way on election day in 1888. His own death therefore is understood, though it has come with a suddenness that is most startling. Just at the time his family at home consisted of himself and the fired girl, Mrs. Lockridge was summoned last week to Kansas City, where their daughter, Mrs. Jennie Warrick, is very sick with fever; and their other daughters, Mesdames Worsley, Drybread, and Armstrong of Nevada, and Mrs. Will of Salina, are or have been at their own homes. The situation at Kansas City is the most painful incident of the tragedy; and Chas. E. Smith has been requested to notify Mrs. Lockridge and Jennie of calamity at home. The whole community will extend its heartfelt sympathy to the stricken family; but at such a time there is little anyone can do.

Mr. Lockridge was born in Virginia in 1832, came to Nevada about 1855, was married here to Miss Lydia Letson, and has been an active member of the community for nearly half a century. He had wealth and was in the full enjoyment of life. Further notice will be given later.
