Mrs. Julia Born
Mrs. Julia Born died at 9 o'clock on Wednesday evening of this week, at the home of one of her daughters fourteen miles northwest of Ames. She has suffered with Brights disease for several years. The funeral services conducted by Rev. F. J. Douglas were held in the Congregational church in Ames. at 11 o'clock on Friday. Mr. Douglas spoke from Ecc. 1:2 "Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher vanity of vanity, all is vanity." A long concourse followed the remains from the neighborhood where the deceased lived. The birthday of Mrs. Born was Nov. 18th 1810. Her native country was Germany. On the 24th of June 1833 she was united in marriage with Mr. Jacob Born. In 1837 they emigrated to the United States, first settling in Illinois. In 1855 they came to Iowa. Mr. Born died 20 years ago and his remains were buried in the Ames cemetery. To this couple were born eight children, two sons and six daughters, all of whom survive their parents. The family formerly occupied a farm on the east side of Ames, and a part of that quarter is plated as Borne's addition. Mr. Born and his wife were brought up by the Lutheran church. They united with the Congregational church in Ames Dec. 6, 1866.
The sons and daughters most of them, reside in Story county. They do not lack in sympathy in their loss of an aged and respected Christian mother.
