Alice Marian Ball
Aug. 26, 1910 to Nov. 18, 1996
Alice Marian Ball, 86, of Ames and formerly of Colo, died of a heart attack on Monday, Nov. 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
She was born to Charles B. and Lydia D. (Danskin) Wilson on Aug. 26, 1910, in rural Colo. She received a B.A. from Drake University.
In 1955, she married Melvin R. Ball in Colo, where she was member of the United Methodist Church of Colo, the church circle and the World Outlook Club of Colo. She had worked as a librarian at the Des Moines Public Library, as head librarian at Waveland Library and as a teacher in both the Winterset and Shipley schools. She had lived in Des Moines, In Clinton, Mo., for 17 years, in Colo from 1980-1987 and in Ames since 1987. Her interests included fishing, reading, traveling, singing, playing the organ and watching TV.
Survivors indlude a sister, Agnes Henry, of Boone; one niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, he husband in 1979 and a brother, Mark Wilson, on Dec. 17, 1994.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Colo with Pastor Russ L. Burnett officiating. Burial was in the Colo Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary handled arrangements.
