Phyllis Jean Johnson, 82, of Story City, died Sunday, March 18, 2012. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday, March 24, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City. Interment will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Phyllis Johnson was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Alta to Fred and Esther (Kraemer) Paap. She was united in marriage on Aug. 30, 1970, to John “Merv” Johnson at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Story City.
Phyllis was a golfer and a bowler, with life membership in the National 600 Bowling Club. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and house plants. She was a hairdresser and owned Phyl’s Beauty Salon in Ames, and later worked at Impressions in Story City.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Keiko) Williams, of Montgomery, Texas, and Steven (Terry) Williams, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a daughter, Vicky (Larry) Hatcher, of Platteville, Colo.; three grandchildren, Jason Williams, Maria Williams, and John Hatcher; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and several aunts and uncles.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church.
