Louis Mourlam, 78, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames, Iowa 607 28th Street, Ames, Iowa, 50010. A private family burial will take place in the Old French Church Cemetery in Woolstock, Iowa at a later date.

Lou was born September 30, 1936 on his family farm near Woolstock, Iowa to Louis Sr. and Mary Mourlam. Lou had dreams of college and after graduation from Webster City High School in 1954 he headed off to seek his education. Lou earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Iowa in 1960 and later went on to get his master's degree in EE at Iowa State University. Lou married his high school sweetheart Beverly Hanson in 1957 and after the couple lived for a time in Chicago for Lou's first job. They then settled in Ames where he worked at Ames Lab. Lou and Bev had one daughter, Sheri.

Lou had many interests – watching college sports, nature, especially trips to the north shore Lake Superior in Minnesota, travels to Europe, politics- he loved to follow it, discuss it and often worked making calls for campaigns. Lou was very proud of his French heritage and was the family historian, researching and writing family histories of both his parent's background. Lou also loved to laugh and make others laugh with him.

Above all, Lou valued and loved his family. In addition to Bev and daughter Sheri (Steve) he loved spending time with grandchildren Nicolas, Kristen and Erin. Lou also loved extended family get-togethers. Lou will be missed very much by all.
