TOLEDO — George E. Weese, 93, of Toledo, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Marshalltown
Medical & Surgical Center, where he was admitted Jan. 6.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Henderson-Overton Funeral Home in
Toledo. The Rev. Lowell Hoyle of the Christ United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1900, at Collins, to Emmett and Grace Marsh Weese. He graduated
from Collins High School in 1918. He was a World War I veteran and served in the SATC
in Ames. He attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines.
On Dec. 15, 1921, he married Ila Fleming. They farmed near Collins. He worked as a
hardware salesman in Iowa and Minnesota. During World War II, he worked in an
ammunition plant in St. Louis, Mo.
After retiring, they moved to Florida and in 1984, they moved to Toledo.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church Otterbine Center in Toledo.
He was a past member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila, in 1993; a sister, and a half sister.
Survivors include a son, Glenn of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; two daughters,
Phyllis Randall of Toledo, and Barbara Avery of Huxley; a granddaughter, Janet
Graham of Toledo, who was raised in the Weese home; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-
grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren;
and one step-great-great-grandchild.
