John M. Lawrence, for many years a well-known resident of this city, died at the home of his father-in-law, F. T. McLain, in Ames at 1:30 o'clock Monday morning, after a long illness. The remains were brought to Boone on No. 3 Thursday morning and taken to the Presbyterian Church, where they lay in state until 12:00 o'clock and were viewed by many sorrowing friends and relatives. The funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. O.H.L. Mason, burial in East Linwood. The services at the grave were in charge of the Masons, of which order he was an honored member.
John Lawrence was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, October 3, 1870, and was just past 37 years of age at the time of this death. He came with his family to Boone in 1888 and has resided here since. He was one of the most faithful employees of the Northwestern Railway Company during his residence and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. November 14, he was married to Miss Stella McLain, of Ames, who with his mother, two brothers and three sisters, are left to mourn his untimely death.
