JOSEPH MILLS
Mr. Joseph Mills died at the home of his son, William Mills in Grant township May 27 being at the time of his death in his eighty-eighth year. He was born August 10, 1824, in Monaghan county, Ireland. He came to Canada when he was seventeen years old. He was married to Isabelle Scarlott* March 27, 1853. They moved to Ohio in 1854 and to Ames in 1869. In 1857 he became a member of the Methodist church and upon reaching Ames affiliated with the church here. Four children were born to them three girls and one boy. The children living are Mrs. Harland Erb and Mr. W. H. Mills who reside in Grant township and Mrs. Hutchison who lives in Dakota.
The funeral services were held this afternoon conducted by Rev. W. J. Minchin. Favorite hymns were sung by Mrs. Conaway and Miss Bessie Mather.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: According to the 1925 Iowa census and the marriage record of William H. Mills (son of Joseph and Isabella Mills), Isabella's maiden name was Castle or Castelle (not Scarlott.)
