Evern Yancey
Born July 17, 1925, died Jan. 20, 1999

Evern Yancey, 73, of Nevada died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 of cancer st Story County Long-term Care in Nevada.

Yancey was born July 17, 1925, in Hanah, Okla., to William Jack and Lula (Selvidge) Yancey. He entered the U.S. Army Engineers during WW II.

He married Dorothy (Cody) Harrelson on June 2, 1979,at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Yancey had been a resident of Nevada for the past 37 years. he retired from Donnelley Marketing in 1993 and had been a crossing guard for the Ames schools for the past three years. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg and the William F. Ball American Legion Post No. 48 in Nevada. Evern enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Raymond Dennis Harrelson of Cambridge and Randy Dean Harrelson of Colo; three daughters, Claudia Jean Conrad of Monett, Mo., Ruth Marie Willson of Ames and Karla Denise Gealow of Williamsburg; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolly Gwin of England, Ark. and Cleo Fettinger of Conway, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Jan. 22 at Chet Ryan Mortuary with the Rev. Wayne Pfannkuch of the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg officiating. Military gravesite rites were conducted by the William F. Ball American Legion Post No. 48 at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

Arrangements were made by Chet Ryan Mortuary of Nevada.
