WENDELL JOHNSON

Wendell Johnson, 56, of Clear Lake, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1982 at his home.

He was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Nevada, the son of Kenneth C. and Beulah Johnson, and was a 1944 graduate of Rhodes High School and a 1951 graduate of the Gemology Institute of America in Los Angeles, Calif.

On April 27, 1947, he married Betty White in Nevada. Mr. Johnson died his apprenticeship with L. R. White in watch making and jewelry repair. Following his graduation from college, he bought the Patterson Jewelry Store in Clear Lake, which he had owned and operated since.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, the Masonic Lodge, El Kahr Shrine in Cedar Rapids, Rotary Club and the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce. He was a certified gemologist with the Gem Society and had served as an Clear Lake councilman. He served with the Army in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Wendell, of Sun City, Ariz.; two daughters, Martha Lynn and Mary Cathryn, Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister Mrs. LaVon Tjelmeland of Roland; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Johnson of rural Nevada.

Masonic services were held Sunday evening at the Ward-Van-Slyke Funeral Home in Clear Lake. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational church in Clear Lake, with Rev. Kenneth Ubbelonde officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery.

There was a prayer service at 3 p.m. Monday at the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada.
