Margaret Irene Toms
Oct. 3, 1907 to June 23, 2001Margaret Irene Toms, 93, of Huxley and formerly of Nevada, died of complications from a fall on Saturday, June 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
She was born Oct 3, 1907, in Ames to L.P. and Elizabeth (Lange) Larson. She was a graduate of Ames High School and married Laurence Toms on Oct. 7, 1929, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She retired from Donnelley's as a supervisor in the data processing department. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, Order of the Eastern Star and the Donnelley Retirement group. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and was longtime Nevada resident.
Survivors include her son, William (and Mary) Toms of Lake Shore, Minn.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Hash of Middleburg, Fla., and Carrie Davis of Ames; and two brothers, Frank Larson of Nevada and Robert Larson of Story City.
Her parents; her husband on May 24, 1984; and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 27, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the American Cancer Society. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
