From Fredergill Family Funeral Home obituary, Collins and Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Merrill Donald Vansice, 85 of Nevada, and formerly of Baxter passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Monday, June 30, 2014. A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Baxter Community Center, 203 South Main St. in Baxter, from 2-4 pm. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery, in Baxter, immediately following the celebration of life visitation.

Merrill was born on September 9, 1928 to Will and Anna (Garrison) Vansice. After completing his education in Baxter, he served in the Army and was in World War II. He married Mary Wax and together they had four children. He was a laborer for Firestone for 35 years before retiring.
Being a part of the Nevada American Legion Post #48 was very important to Merrill, he served various rolling within the American Legion, tended the bar often, and took part in an Honor Flight in 2012.

Merrill leaves behind his children, Shirley (Dave) Smith, Donnie (Diane) Vansice, Rosemary Vansice, and David (Char) Vansice; his grandchildren, Joshua, Chad, Penny, Tanya, SueAnn, Jon, Amanda, Dominic, and Jeremiah; many great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.

His parents and wife preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Nevada American Legion Post #48.

Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Merrill and his family.
