Nevada boy dies after accident

NEVADA -- A five-year-old Nevada boy died yesterday afternoon at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames following a farm accident at his home.

Shane Michael Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Black, route 1, Nevada, was injured when a three-point hitch fell on him early yesterday afternoon. He was taken to Mary Greeley Hospital, where he died during surgery.

He was born August 31, 1973 in Ames, the son of Michael Loy and Joan Nelson Black, and lived with his parents on their farm near Ames all of his life.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Derrick, at home, a sister, Michelle, at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Loy Black of Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nelson of Huxley; and by his great grandparents, Mrs. Vera Black of Nevada and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Moser of Ames.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Nevada, with Rev. Harold E. Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at the Nevada Cemetery.

The family will meet friends at Ryan Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
