Richard Melvin Beymer
April 8, 1915 to June 24, 1997Richard Melvin Beymer, 82, of Nevada, died Tuesday, June 24, of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease) at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
He was born to Walter F. and Dale I. (Cellman) Beymer in Clarke County, Iowa, on April 8, 1915.
On July 21, 1935, he married Lena F. O'Neall in Bethany, Mo. A 55-year resident of Story County, he worked as a farmer and was a 50-year member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge #99 and past president of the Golden K. His interests included traveling and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lena, of Nevada; and a son, Nile (and wife, Betty) Beymer, of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Betty J. Apland.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada with Pastor Gerald Sawyer officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Masonic rites. Memorial contributions may be given to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association.
