Betty Beymer Apland, 51, died at her home in Ankeny, IA., Thursday, Aug. 10, 1989. Cause of death was Lou Gehrig's disease.

She was born in rural Clarke County, near Murray, IA., on Feb. 8, 1938. She moved to Story county at the age of four and spent her entire life in the Story and Polk County areas.

She attended Fernald and Shipley schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1957. She worked for General Telephone Co., Iowa State University, Des Moines Area Community College, and Jester Realty and Allied Insurance, both in Des Moines.

She married Donald Apland June 18, 1966 and lived in Ankeny until her death. Services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley, IA., with Ankeny Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Apland is survived by her husband; her parents, Richard and Lena Beymer of Nevada; and her brother and sister-in-law, Nile and Betty Lou Beymer of Nevada. Memorial contributions may be made to the Des Moines Blank Park Zoo, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the Palestine Lutheran window project.
