MARION GEORGE LINK
Marion George Link, 70, of 228 Valley View Circle, Nevada, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 1985, of cancer, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
He was born at Bronson, Ia., Dec. 19, 1914 to Charles C. and Clara (Smith) Link. He was educated in the rural schools of Woodbury County, Ia., and also attended Maxwell and Fernald Schools.
On May 24, 1972, he was married to June Hanson Neff at Nevada.
Mr. Link moved with his family to Story County in 1938. He farmed early in his life, later became a bricklayer and carpenter, a trade he continued to enjoy after retirement also. He worked for the Ames Library and the Iowa State University Dept. of Atomic Energy Installation.
He was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Nevada, and Moose Lodge No. 520, Ames.
In 1939 and 1940 Mr. Link was the Iowa corn picking champion. He was also runnerup in the national corn picking contest in 1939.
Survivors include his wife, June; a son, Albert Link of Ames; two daughters, Sandra Pogwizd of Anoka, Minn., and Lynn McVicker of Vienna, Va.; two stepdaughters, Patricia Jamieson of Crystal Lake, Ill. and Karla Echevarria of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Dale and Darrell Link of Nevada; three sisters, Dorothy Bower of Atchison, Kan., Marie Dodd of Selbyville, Del., and Ruth Evans of San Lorenzo, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rollie.
Mr. Link served with the Seabees in the Pacific in World War II.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 1985, at the Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Keith H. Orr officiating. Interment will be in Nevada Cemetery. Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
