JAMES N. HORNER
Funeral services for James Nelson Horner, 96, were held July 18 from Stevens Memorial Chapel with the Rev. E. E. Peters of the Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery.
Mr. Horner died July 13 at the Wright Nursing Home in St. Joseph, Mo. He had bee in ill health for six weeks.
James Horner was born April 6, 1874 at Baxter Springs, Kan. He spent his boyhood on a farm in Indiana and came to Iowa in 1905. He lived in the Nevada and Ames area until he moved to Highland, Kan., to live with a daughter, Mrs. Avis Thomas, seven years ago.
While in Ames, he worked for the Ames Light plant from 1919 until he retired in 1947.
Survivors include three son, Fred Horner, 412 East Second St., Tom Horner, Grand Rapids, Minn. and Bill Horner, Duluth, Minn.; five daughters, Mrs. Thelma Shultz, Mrs. Eunice Thomas and Mrs Artha Erickson, all of 516 Seventh St., Mrs. Wilma Keigley, Seattle, Wach., and Mrs. Anis Thomas, Highland, Kan.; a half-sister, Mrs. Barbara Hartmen, 113 South Russell Ave.; a half-brother, George Horner, Jewell; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ben Horner in 1967, two daughters, Marvis and Betty Jean Horner, four grandchildren and his parents George and Anna Stanley Horner.
Pallbearers were co-workers from the City Light Plant. They were Bill Lawson, Walter Schlagel, W. T. Hutchens, Bernard Posegate, Dave McCoy and Carl Baker.
