Jake Tillotson, 78, a native of Story county and a resident of Nevada nearly all his life, veteran of World War I, died this morning at the Iowa Soldiers Home hospital in Marshalltown wher he had been a patient for some time.

Funeral services will be held from the Ryan funeral home in Nevada at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge.

Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.

He is survived by two sisters Mrs. Amy Banks of Nevada and Mrs. Sylvia Flora of California and two brothers, Ed Tillotson of Nevada and David Tillotson of Riceville. He was never married

Last rites were conducted for Jacob L. Tillotson from the Ryan Funeral home last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

The two songs, "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" were sung by Mrs. Kenneth Rapp accompanied by Mrs. Richard Benson on the piano.

The casket bearers were H. F. Hadley, Tom McLaury, Adolph Kleinschmidt, Clark Stookey, Glenn White and Art Stoeffler.

The military services at the grave were in charge of Ted Clark, acting as commander., Adolph Kleinschmidt, Art Stoeffler, Clark Stockey and Tom McLaury made up the firing squad; color bearer was Alex Quinsland; and the color guard was Lee Zook and Holly Eide.

Taps was sounded by Rodney Snyder and echo by Darrel Dodd. The Rev. E. P. Windman was chaplain.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Jacob L. Tillotson, son of William and Lydia Tillotson, was born at Cambridge Oct. 22, 1875. He departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1950 at 10 a. m. at the Soldiers' Home in Marthslltown.

Mr. Tillotson, or "Jake" as he was known, grew to manhood in Story county and lived here nearly all of the time until his death. He enlisted in the first World War and was stationed in the state of Texas until the armistice was signed.

A few years after he returned from the service of his country, Mr. Tillotson's health began to fail and finally it was advisable for him to enter the Soldier's Home at Marshalltown where he had lived the past 14 years and made many friends among his comrades there.

His father and mother, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Ed of Nevada and Dave of Riceville, Ia.; also two sisters Sylvia Flora of Los Angeles, Calif., and Amy Banks of Nevada, a number of nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
