John Douglas Lounsberry
August 18, 1957 - June 5, 2014

John Douglas Lounsberry, 56, of Story City, IA passed away in his home on June 5, 2014 after a two year battle of cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, Lorijo (Helland) Lounsberry and his three children: Brian, Kevin, and Lynn. John was the son of Max and Winnifred (Barrett) Lounsberry of Zearing, IA. He graduated from NESCO High School in 1975. He attended UNI, graduating with a BA in Accounting. John married his high school sweetheart, LoriJo, on June 7, 1980. They moved to Webster City where he worked with an accounting firm in Eagle Grove. They then moved to Oelwein in January 1985. He worked at Maynard Cooperative for 12 years. They returned to Story County in August 1998.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lorijo, his kids Brian, Kevin and Lynn, and his mother, Winnie Lounsberry, his brother Tom (Denise) Lounsberry and their two children Nicholas and Andrew. He is also survived by his sister-in law Ann (Greg) Ruble, their son, Nathan (Holly) and their 2 kids, Georgia and Rider, his brother-in-law Kurt Helland (girlfriend, Jody Horning).

He was preceded in death by his stillborn son, Jay Douglas, on February 24, 1986 and his father, Max, on January 23, 1998.

John worked at Oakland Cooperation for the past 17 years. He loved working with his dear friends and his boss (Brother in Christ) Roger Oakland. He also enjoyed a part-time job at Casey's, which allowed him to tell story after story of memorable people the he encountered. John thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, and watching sports. He was a die-hard Hawkeye fan and most recently, Iowa Wild Hockey. If you asked him a sports question he could answer it!

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10 from 5-8pm and his funeral will be Wednesday, June 11 at 1 pm. Both services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.
