Richard "Dick" Dale Thornton
April 29, 1919 - May 28, 2014

Richard "Dick" Dale Thornton, formerly of Des Moines, Ankeny, Huxley and Story City, went home to be with Jesus on May 28, 2014. He was 95 years and 1 month old. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette, Story City and services will be Saturday at 11:00 at Harvest Evangelical Free Church, 524 River Hills Dr. Story City.

Richard served in World War ll in the Army Air Corps. He retired from the Post Office after 30 years of service. Richard was a man who loved the Lord, loved his family and loved life to the fullest.

He was preceded in death by almost everyone he knew (he was 95 years old), including his wife Pauline of 50 years, his parents and all of his siblings except 1 sister.

He is survived by Janet, his wife of 17 years; his sister Dolores Vanderpool; his daughter Joni Melton and husband Darrell, his sons Bruce and wife Candie, Gary and wife Lynne. He is also survived by 5 step children, Diane Spear and husband Doug, Tim Shahan, Jane Wilder and husband Bruce, Bruce Shahan and Dale Shahan; 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
