Ella M. Peacock was born in Schuyler county, Illinois, on April 19, 1858, where she spent her childhood and attended the rural schools until ready to enter high school in Augusta, Ill. Being ambitious for an education, she prepared herself for the profession of a teacher and became a very successful teacher in Augusta, and later in the schools of Corydon, Iowa, and other schools in Wayne county, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to J. N. Freeland, in her home near Augusta, Ill., on February 11, 1886 -- to this union was born one son, Ansel V. Freeland, who passed away in Nevada, Iowa, on June 24, 1926.
During the years Mr. and Mrs. Freeland had several children, and young people, not their own in their home, where they gave them the advantages of fine Christian upbringing.
Their first married years were spent in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and later for many years they were in the mercantile business in Blockton, Iowa, and for a short while in Marshalltown, Iowa. They came to Nevada about 30 years ago. In all of these years, they were faithful and devoted members of the Methodist church. Mr. Freeland passed away on January 4, 1937.
Mrs. Freeland's death occurred on Saturday evening, March 22, 1952 at the Mingus Nursing home, in Des Moines, where she has been cared for during the past 2 1/2 years. Mrs. Freeland had reached the advanced age of 93 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She leaves two grandsons, John Freeland of Des Moines, iowa and Garrett Freeland of Baltimore, Maryland. Four great-grandchildren, and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ansel Freeland, two nieces; Mrs. Leona Ford of Des Moines, aIowa and Mrs. Howard B. Eagle of Salina, Kansas. Theses together with other relatives and many friends and neighbors will cherish her memory.
