Grant Peterson Dies Early Today; Ill But Few Days

Grant Peterson, 54, native son of Nevada, and since 1914, operating a farm two and one half miles south of Nevada, on what was known as the old Jefferson Highway, died at Iowa sanitarium here at 12:20 a. m. today.

Mr. Peterson had suffered a recurrence of troubles for which he had undergone an operation four years ago. He was taken ill on Tuesday and Sunday morning was brought to Iowa sanitarium where he submitted to an operation at noon, an died about 12 hours later.

Born in Nevada, March 8, 1888, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Peterson, pioneers of Nevada, he had lived in or near Nevada all o his life. In 1914, he with his father rented the farm south of town and there the father passed away and Grant had continued to operate the farm.

He was united in marriage Jan. 12, 1936, to Miss Sadie Beckley of Nevada and she with their only son, John David, age 19 years, survive.

Besides the wife and son he is survived by five sisters and on brother. The sisters are Carrie, Mrs. Fred Beadle, of Des Moines; Mary, Mrs. Mary Crowell, of Des Moines; Mabel, Mrs. Dwight W. Brown of Des Moines; Hazel, Mrs. Hazel Nutty of Nevada; and Lois, Mrs. Ole Dirksen of Ames. The one brother is Sam Peterson, farmer, of southwest of Nevada.

It was but a few weeks ago that a brother-in-law, Lee Riddlesbarger, of just east of Nevada, passed away, Mrs. Riddlesbarger and Mrs. Peterson are sisters.

Grant Peterson was a man of good character, a devoted husband and father, a kindly and helpful neighbor and friend and a man held in the highest of esteem by a wide circle of friends and neighbors, many of whom had known him during his entire lifetime.

Funeral services for Mr. Peterson will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, at Memorial Lutheran church, with Dr. J. O. Simon in charge.
